About
The Thompson & Area Pet Care Cooperative was formed in early 2023 by a group of concerned pet owners and community members in response to the impending closure of the one operating veterinary clinic in Thompson. We quickly mobilized, and in collaboration with key stakeholders we are now working to create the first veterinary cooperative of its kind. We believe our animals deserve to have the best healthcare possible and that in order to maintain Thompson as an attractive option, we must have veterinary service in our region.
To achieve our goals of accessible and sustainable veterinary care in Thompson, we plan to purchase the building and equipment owned by North of 55 Veterinary Services which is owned by Dr. Keri Hudson-Reykdal. Dr. Keri will be working with us through our early stages while we actively seek full-time, part-time, and locum veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Once we are established and have found another full-time veterinarian interested in taking over the veterinary clinic they will become the owner of the vet clinic and Dr. Keri will be able to step away.
We will work closely with the vet clinic to maintain a harmonious relationship between vet care, business, and community to attain quality, affordability, and sustainable services for Thompson and surrounding communities. We hope to create veterinary care that is based on care, where veterinarians can operate their business without the financial burden of purchasing a building and equipment and focus on day to day operations of their profession. All profits acquired by The Thompson & Area Pet Care Cooperative will go into hiring incentives, expansion of services, scholarships, and outreach programs.
